Dorset has a large number of walking trails along its 3000 miles of rights of way making it a favourite destination for ramblers. The local council have improved the network over recent years and as such thousands of new signposts have been erected and many paths cleared. There are walks for everyone including the South West Coast Path which stretches 73 miles from Lyme Regis to Poole Harbour (www.swcp.org.uk). Along the South West Coast path you will encounter Golden Cap, which at 626 feet is the highest point on the south coast and provides views for many miles along the stunning coastline. Inland there are many interesting trails where you can enjoy scenes of beautiful rolling countryside and encounter many of Dorset’s picturesque villages. - North Dorset – Wessex Ridgeway, North Dorset Trailway
- West Dorset – South Dorset Ridgeway, Cerne Valley Way, South West Coast Path
Cycling routes around Dorset
Dorset is the perfect place to get on your bike and discover the surrounding area. You can cycle along the country lanes and discover many a hidden dorset village or visit one of its lively seaside towns. For the leisure cyclist a friendly country pub is never far away and there are several cycle hire companies in the area. For the more enthusiastic cyclist there are demanding routes on and off road which will provide both a challenge and a chance to see the stunning countryside.
